We want to take a moment to acknowledge the paper Andy Waynick presented at the Annual NLGI meeting in Hot Springs, VA. It was not only enlightening, it was downright entertaining! Andy took a look at the patent history of overbased calcium sulfonates from 1942 to 2000 and explained the inventions and improvements metaphorically within the structural framework and poetic verse of the “iconic” 1967 concept album “Days of Future Passed” by The Moody Blues. The takeaway is that all overbased calcium sulfonates are not alike and there is a lot more work to do in order for the industry to better understand, improve, and optimize high TBN calcium sulfonates for grease manufacture. We are very much looking forward to Andy’s next paper!
